NOT EFFORTLESSLY

What’s the deal with this idea of doing things “effortlessly”? Effortless meals, effortless clean-up, effortless side income, effortless communication, effortless hair, effortless style…and one of the most dangerous- effortless weight loss. I’m sure you can think of a few more. I see this tagline everywhere!
But I don’t really agree that ease should be our life goal. I’m a fan of being efficient and having convenience where I can, but I don’t want to go through life expecting big changes to happen without much effort. I feel so much more power and even joy having accomplished something where much effort was needed, as opposed to if something was just handed to me.
Thinking something should be effortless or assuming that it is for someone else is a dangerous mindset that can leave you feeling as though something is wrong with you if you do struggle, or if something is hard for you and takes a lot of effort.
The truth is, most of life is not effortless- for anyone! Parenting, relationships, running a business, working for someone else, decision making….and of course, fitness and nutrition.
Life is full of tricky situations and can be flat out HARD. Putting in effort is how we build resilience. And where it can be so tempting, and seem so much easier if we just did things “effortlessly” I’d rather overcome the hard thing and go through life knowing that I can face whatever comes my way, and do it with genuineness- not portraying a fake version of ease. Effortlessness is not the goal. Efficiency maybe- but for sure discipline, curiosity, resilience, intention, and growth. These things do not exist effortlessly, without struggle…and I’m glad.
