THE BEST MEDICINE

ADAPTATIONS AS WE AGE

When we are young and our hormones are raging high, we can use those hormones to build muscle and create adaptations in our bodies. As we age and hormones decrease, we rely less on them for these adaptations and instead must create change by accessing our nervous system.


How do we do that?


We must put adequate stress on our bodies by intentionally seeking out external stressors.


The stress I’m talking about is paramount!


And the stress I’m talking about is STRENGTH TRAINING. 


By applying this good stress to our bodies we can “jolt” the central nervous system awake and prompt it to send signals for building lean mass and maintaining strength and power. But did you know that it can also strengthen your mind?! Applying the stress of strength training also promotes neuroplasticity (your brain’s ability to learn and adapt to new challenges and experiences by forming and reorganizing synaptic connections) which helps slow down the risk of cognitive decline and dementia, among many other things.


Personally, I would even go so far as to say that exercise, specifically strength training, is the best medicine for any negative pre-existing conditions in our bodies AND THE BEST PREVENTION FOR DISEASE. IT IS SO IMPORTANT! The positive effects are so potent both physically and mentally. -Coach Tish
